“Kingfisher on Bulrushes” was my fist piece. I had started work, slightly, on another piece, fluffing around without much direction. Then one of mum’s clients brought us a dead Sacred Kingfisher. After getting the Department of Conservation’s approval, and mounting the bird, Talitha began a series of paintings using the kingfisher as reference. Once I saw the bird mounted, I was tremendously excited and inspired to do him in bronze. I wasn’t particularly planing to go into art full time at the time, but once I finished this piece, and it came out of the foundry, well, I never looked back.
