Fantail and Fern

An older piece of mine I realized I’d never posted online. Done as a commission for a client, this piece features the Koru, the fern’s fiddle-head, detailed to the smallest degree. The New Zealand Native Fantail is a favorite; incredibly friendly, these birds will often follow you about outside in the hope you will stir up small bugs which they then catch in flight. They are masters of acrobatics, and I’ve stood fascinated watching them perform high speed dogfights with larger bugs such as cicadas chasing them down with alacrity. Their friendly chirp, and their comical manner make them a real character.
